Invite Heather To Speak

Heather Gastelum | Founder · Speaker · Author · Trades Advocate · Firearm Instructor · OSHA Construction Trainer

More than 30 years in construction and telecommunications. National tower operations. A nationwide contractor safety program built from the ground up. And for much of it, the only woman — or the only technical woman — in the room.

I started out in my dad’s steel fabrication shop, where I learned that girls can use tools, solve problems, and hold their own. That lesson became a career spent on job sites, in technical meetings, and on industry boards and committees, helping companies build safety cultures that hold up under pressure and helping women find their voice in workplaces that weren’t built for them.

Today I bring that experience to the stage, the classroom, Cowgirl Capable, and the Power Tools & Pony Tails children’s book series. I speak about the skills and decisions that shape what we believe we can do: building a strong safety culture, preparing for personal and travel safety, finding your voice, opening doors to skilled careers, and showing the next generation what is possible. My goal is for people to leave with more than a good feeling — I want them to leave with something they can use.

Speaking Topics

Every session is tailored to your audience. These are the conversations I’m asked for most.

Finding Your Voice When You're the Only Woman in the Room or on the Job Site

Lessons from construction, technical meetings, and leadership roles on speaking up, earning trust, handling difficult situations, and helping the next woman do the same.

Safety Is a Leadership Decision

What decades in construction and telecommunications taught me about responsibility, the consequences of shortcuts, and building a culture where people are willing to act before someone gets hurt.

Confidence Is Built Through Capability

Why learning a skill, practicing it, and taking responsibility for your own safety can change the way you carry yourself at work and in life.

Travel Safety and Situational Awareness

Practical habits and decisions that help people prepare, recognize concerns early, and respond with greater confidence while traveling for work or pleasure.

If They Can See It, They Can Become It

Why children need to encounter skilled careers earlier, what real women in the trades can teach them, and how families, schools, and industry can make those careers visible.

Building the Next Generation of Skilled Workers

A conversation about career exposure, mentorship, and the role employers and tradespeople can play in helping young people see a future in work that builds and maintains our world.

Sessions can be tailored for conferences, corporate teams, industry associations, schools, libraries, and community events.
